I’m new to machine embroidery, but coming in with lots of crafting, machine operating, and software skills. Given the level of control EmbroideryWare offers over how the design is built, I’m very interested in learning more about how to do it the right way. Do you have any favorite references on how good embroidery patterns are put together that you can point to?

A book I bought that taught me the basics and was a fairly easy read was digitizing made easy.  You can find it on amazon.  The reason I liked the book is it was written by a long time digitizer.  He went into the history and shared his thoughts on what was important.  One item in particular I agree with is art to stich functionality more often than not does not produce good results.  Most novices want this but they will be disappointed.  You need to figure out the design yourself.  This book explains these sort of things so that’s why I recommend it.

Thank you, I saw that one and wondered if it would be helpful or not. Have to put that on the list.
