I can’t figure out how to create a fill section with a hole in it so that there is another fill stitched in the hole. How do I do this?

Make three graphics. One large one, the main one. One small one the hole, and another small one the fill for the hole. Select the first two. Then select hole feature under the curves modification menu and follow the instruction in the status bar. You basically click any point on the large one and then any point on the hole. Now you should have just two graphics. Change the type of each to a fill.
